SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND

victoriaVancouver Island in general is known for its temperate climate and beautiful scenery with full, untouched forests. Many people enjoy living here because of the peaceful atmosphere and the many resources available.

The main source of income for residents in this region comes from the service industry. There is a heavy focus on jobs in the medical, therapeutic, and food industries.
Victoria is the largest city in this region, and one of the oldest cities in Western Canada. It is well-known for its scenic Inner Harbour and characteristic heritage buildings. These buildings include two castles, the parliament buildings, and the Empress Hotel.

Victoria has a vibrant arts and culture scene, with many festivals and live music events. There are also many beautiful gardens, beaches, and trails to explore. With its mild year-round climate, there are lots of outdoor activities available even throughout the winter.

Victoria is also home to a few different ferry ports, one to Tsawwassen (close to Vancouver), one to Port Angeles, and one to downtown Seattle. An international airport is located about 35 minutes away from the downtown core, while sea planes await just in the Inner Harbour. There are even two decent-sized hospitals in the Victoria area.

The surrounding areas are wonderful, quiet places to live. Sydney is a little bit more low-key with lots of farmland and less-populated beach sites. Sooke is a rocky, gorgeous community that stretches out along the west coast of Vancouver Island. Mill Bay and Shawnigan Lake are found at the opposite end from Victoria and make up quiet communities along bodies of water and lots of forest. Whether you are looking to be close to the city life, or in a quiet remote area, the great thing about Vancouver Island is that you are never far from whatever you may need.
